SAP Saves Millions By Becoming More SustainableSAP today released its quarterly sustainability update and shared that it has saved approximately EUR 170 million between 2008 and today as a result of focused sustainability initiatives. The report also details preliminary, unaudited greenhouse gas emissions for the first quarter ending March 31, 2011, which totaled 111 kilotonnes (not including Sybase), an increase of six percent compared to the first quarter of 2010. Sustainability Site a Model for Innovative ReportingWith the aim to encourage active dialogue, SAP launched its 2010 sustainability report, including creative use of social media. Peter Graf, SAP’s chief sustainability officer, explained that the new report went beyond the typical exchange between visitors and SAP to encourage cross-pollination among visitors who are “encouraged to share how they are driving cultural change.” Read the full article.

SAP Report Confirms Decoupling of Emissions and Revenue“What is noteworthy is that 2010 is an amazing year because we have for the first time really decoupled emissions from revenue,” said Peter Graf, SAP’s chief sustainability officer, and thus striving towards something many companies aspire to do: reducing its greenhouse gas emissions while increasing its revenue. In its latest sustainability report, SAP details how its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint are paying off, including boosting green power to nearly half of its electricity use, nudging its employees toward low-carbon commuting and investing in videoconferencing technologies.
